Pyrethrin Liquid Applications

Pyrethrum is a genus of several Old World plants now classified as Chrysanthemum or Tanacetum, cultivated as ornamentals for their showy flower heads. Pyrethrum continues to be used as a common name for plants formerly included in the genus Pyrethrum. Pyrethrum is also the name of a natural insecticide made from the dried flower heads of Chrysanthemum cinerariifolium and Chrysanthemum coccineum. The insecticidal compounds present in these species are pyrethrins.

Pyrethrin Liquid Applications

Pyrethrum has been used as an insecticide for centuries and as a lice remedy in the Middle East (Persian powder). It was sold worldwide under the Zacherlin brand by Austrian industrialist J. Zacherl. As one of the most commonly used non-synthetic insecticides permitted in certified organic agriculture, pyrethrum contains pyrethrins. They are used as companion plants to repel insect pests from nearby crops and ornamental plants. They are known to repel aphids, bed bugs, leafhoppers, spider mites, harlequin bugs, ticks, pickleworms, and imported cabbage worms in gardens and farms. In the past 20 years, pyrethrin has been widely used in cosmetics, laundry products, household shampoos, and is effective at killing mites and bacteria.
